Mumbai, August, 2018: It was Day 5 of Lakme Fashion Week W|F 18, when Kalki Koechlin glided down the ramp in a beautiful royal ensemble by Gaurav Katta. In his debut show, the Jaipur based designer, showcased his festive collection aptly called ‘SOUVENIRS OF BRITISH INDIA’.
The collection ‘SOUVENIRS OF BRITISH INDIA ‘ was deeply inspired by the classic murals and roof paintings forged in forts and palaces of Rajasthan in the British Era. Every ensemble in the collection was a fluent amalgamation of therestricted royalty of the bygone era with contemporary design sensibilities of the urban woman.
“SOUVENIRS OF BRITISH INDIA” shed light on tales of Independence and empowerment throughthe royal combination of colors in georgette, net, cotton and chiffonfor the women’s wear whereas for menswear the designer used hand-woven fabrics like khadi and modal silk among others. The meticulous embroidery with golden and silver threads, sables and other accessories added elegance to the narration of his story.
Actress Kalki Koechlin, often called the ‘queen of experimental fashion’expresses, “It was a pleasure to walk for Gaurav Katta and support him for his debut show at Lakme Fashion Week. For me, what stood out the most was Gaurav’s refreshing take on the history, art and contemporary fashion and the way he effortlessly integrated influences from them.”
