One of the most celebrated couturiers in the country, Anita Dongre is celebrated for her modern take on traditional clothing. She’s been lauded for interspersing indigenous crafts of dying and weaving fabric with contemporary silhouettes as this time she decides to explore the magic of craft villages, clacking looms and crafts that are handed down generation after generation across marauding empires of Kutch. She embraces the life that is built on community which holds the roots of sustainability.

As far as the storytelling goes, Anita had a distinct approach to classicism. Best-known for marrying royal legacies from a millennium ago and bringing it together with handwoven fabrics, rich embroideries and intricate fabric pattern dyeing from a variety of regions as a means of regaining the lost splendour of India’s rich craft history, Anita has mastered a simplistic luxe approach since 2015, which has now become an inspiration for many.
This year, Anita has drown into the crafts and techniques from Kutch and dug into all the unravelled crafts that have been kept over a millennium. Expect vibrant handwoven fabrics, rich embroideries and intricate patterns in the traditional Kutchi hues of reds and blues. The resist dyeing techniques of bandhini and ajrakh are also heavily featured in the collection.

Not only do the pieces use techniques from the village, they were also created by the local craftspeople, “It’s been an absolute joy for my team and I to create this special collection along with the artisans of Bhuj. Their craft and these pieces are truly timeless and I hope everyone who buys them enjoys wearing them equally, and pass them down as heirloom pieces just like our grandparents did,” says Anita Dongre.
