Alia Bhatt turned eyebrows at the Berlin Film Festival while wearing a customized Rimple & Harpreet White Couture Saree.
Mr. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Alia Bhatt wore Rimple & Harpreet to the Gangubai Kathiawadi premiere.
Alia Bhatt turned attention in Berlin today, wearing a spotless white saree by Rimple & Harpreet to the premiere of Gangubai Kathiawadi at the Berlin Film Festival.
Rimple & Harpreet imagined Alia Bhatt in an immaculate ivory silk chiffon saree for this particular occasion, keeping the thematic core of Gangubai in mind while also creating a modern classic aesthetic. Alia is a fireball of brilliance; one of the most attractive actors of her generation, and designing this very particular saree for her was an absolute delight for the firm.
The saree, which has intricated handcrafted embroidery based on antique Edwardian and French Lace Shawls, required many man-hours and a team of skilled karigars to finish. Jaali-work, shadow embroidery, silk floss threads, mother of pearl paillettes, hand-cut sequins, and imported pearls of various sizes were used to create the embroideries. A hand-knotted silk Dori macramé fringe completed the scalloped palla. A handmade minaudière and a plush lamé-pashmina shawl with pearl-work borders completed the ensemble to keep the Berlin chill at bay.
Rimple & Harpreet created a tonal black sherwani with an all-over tessellated texture drawn from holy geometry for Mr. Bhansali, staying true to his natural understated elegance. It was complemented with an ivory costume.
“It was a great joy to design for Mr. Bhansali and Alia Bhatt for the Berlin Film Festival showing of Gangubai Kathiawadi. Though we dress celebrities on the red carpet and in movies continuously constantly, this was unique in that Alia’s whole wardrobe was designed just for the screenings, with her particular ease and elegance in mind. The saree was created in quick succession by a large crew of professional karigars who worked day and night.” Rimple Narula of Rimple & Harpreet concur.
