Luminox ICE-SAR Arctic 1200 Series– Official Partner Of The Icelandic Association

As the official partner of the Icelandic Association for Search and Rescue (ICE-SAR), Luminox is committed to creating watches that meet the needs of these intrepid public servants as they go about their daily duties – which can mean dealing with volcanic eruptions, avalanches, shipwrecks, mega storms and even more.

The ICE-SAR teams need a timepiece on which they can rely, which is why they chose Luminox as their official timepiece. With its rugged, shock resistant construction, robust water resistance and luminosity, Luminox certainly fits the bill. In addition to ice, heavy rains and strong winds, ICE-SAR also has to deal with limited daylight visibility as Iceland remains in partial or total darkness during several months in winter. In such conditions, Luminox watches and their unique self-powered illumination system – providing constant glow for up to 25 years – truly become an essential gear to ICE-SAR teams in order to conduct their missions.

Following up on last year’s phenomenal success, Luminox is introducing the new Arctic 1200 Series stainless steel models in the ICE-SAR line, complete with interesting details and new colors.

The most eye-catching piece is the ICE-SAR Arctic 1200 with the blue case on a textile strap, but this model is also available in four other variations: black on textile strap, black on steel bracelet, white on textile strap, and white on a steel bracelet. The textile strap has reflective material imbedded in the textile for additional safety at night, mimicking the clothing the ICE-SAR teams wear.

All the Arctic 1200 Series watches are powered by a Ronda quartz movement with a lithium battery and, due to the case’s screw down case back and crown, are all water resistant to 200 meters (20 ATM). The hands are inspired by the carabiners the teams use, while the red graphic around the date window is the ICE-SAR logo. The dial, on which is printed a map of the world, with the coordinates of the ICE-SAR headquarters in Reykjavik smack in the middle, is protected by a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and framed by a bi-directional turning bezel.

With this bezel, you can navigate using your Arctic 1200 Series timepiece as a sun compass. In the Northern Hemisphere, you point the hour hand at the sun and imagine an angle formed by the hour hand and a line drawn from the 12 o’clock position to the center of the watch. Bisect that angle and that is true south. Put the turning bezel’s S on that point and you now know the cardinal directions. In the Southern Hemisphere, you point the 12 o’clock position at the sun, imagine the angle between the hour and the line from the 12 to the center of watch. Bisect that angle and that is true north.

Luminox is proud to continue working with and supporting the ICE-SAR, a historic Search and Rescue operation, and to be equipping them with ICE-SAR Arctic Series watches. To celebrate this unique partnership, each ICE-SAR Arctic 1200 Series watch comes with a special booklet on the partnership.
