Mumbai, 25th August’18: Saaksha and Kinni showcased their Winter Festive collection on day 4 of Lakme Fashion Week. The collection, titled Raas was heavily inspired by Gujarat. In particular the signature prints like bandhani, patola and leheriya prints were reinterpreted and used in modern global silhouettes. The designers were also inspired by the Kotwalia tribe of South Gujarat whose livelihood lies within cane basket weaving. They had interwoven cane material with their signature thread work and metal strips to create an interesting surface texture. The fabrics used were mostly cotton silks, drill and flat chiffon. The chiffon and cotton silks were a reflective of the feminine side of the collection and the stiffer drill fabrics was a reflection of the sharper masculine side.
Complementing the stunning collection, the hair was crimped and loose and the makeup clean and fresh with a dark lip – playing with the notions of femininity and masculinity.
Ending the show was the gorgeous Shruti Hassan. In a beautiful soft and layered number in a nude palette. Known for her edginess and boldness when it comes to her personal style, the designers wanted to showcase her softer side by giving her something very fluid and feminine.
“We chose Shruti to be our showstopper simply because she is family. Who better to represent us and walk for us. Her energy, boldness and elegance are a great match for the collection”, says Saaksha.
When asked about they’re third time at fashion week, the designers said “Lakme is the most important platform to us after showcasing for the first time here at Gen Next exactly a year ago. it is exciting to come back for the third time and showcase a collection that we are really proud of and one that reflects our country and its culture and heritage.”
